Tomaš

Životopis

Lora Tomaš was born in Zagreb in 1981. She holds an MA in Indology and English Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, and an MA in Gender Studies from Central European University.

She co-edited and co-translated two anthologies of contemporary Indian short fiction and poetry: Popodnevni pljuskovi: Izbor iz suvremenog indijskog ženskog pisanja (Afternoon Showers: A Selection of Contemporary Indian Women’s Writing, V.B.Z., 2011) and Lotosi od neona: Indijski autori o gradovima i drugim ljubavima (Lotuses of Neon: Indian Authors on Cities and Other Loves, Studio TiM&Lotos Association, 2017).

She has also translated works by American writers Ocean Vuong, Jack Gilbert, and Carmen Maria Machado.

Her debut novel, Slani mrak (Salt Dark, Hena com, 2020), received the Slavić Award from the Croatian Writers’ Association for the best debut work. Her second novel, Papir tvoje kože (The Paper of Your Skin, Hena com, 2024), won the Fric Award and was shortlisted for the European Union Prize for Literature in 2026.

She spent several years in South Asia, writing reportage and literary criticism for publications including Himāl Southasian, Deccan Herald, Fountain Ink, O Heraldo, Tehelka, The Sunday Guardian, Mint, The Hindu, The Hindu Business Line, The Times of India, and JetWings.
